lydian candles branding
Art Direction, Brand + Identity Creation: Lydia McWherter
Objective: Creation of the brand identity for my side hustle, Lydian Candles. This project started as something I did for holiday gifts and for fun during the Covid-19 pandemic. I decided to make it into a side hustle after people kept asking to purchase more candles for themselves, friends and family. The brand and candles are heavily influenced by my Korean-Celtic heritage and ancestry, my travels around the world, and memories.
The logo mark below is from a pattern commonly found on Buddhist temples and on traditional Korean clothing, called Hanbok.
This symbol has resonated with me throughout my life and I feel is a symbol of myself as well as my culture.
The colors are representative of myself as a mixed race person. I’ve lived my whole life in multiple cultures, an amalgamation of both sides of my family. The mixture of colors shown in the patterns and logo mark is meant to represent all the different cultures that exist within me. Purple is used as the main color, as it represents abundance and spiritual awareness in both Korean and Celtic culture, both of which are important to me.
